 BRUSSELS CITIZENS

 SPEAK UP

PaveTheWay took to the streets of Brussels to hear what the community is saying about the state of their sidewalks.

PaveTheWay asked one Brussels resident about her experience with the city's sidewalks, and needless to say, it wasn't great.

This mom, who declined a comment, had trouble navigating her daughter's stroller on the pavements in Ixelles.

When asked if the Brussels sidewalks are difficult for him to walk on, this man said, “always, always.”

This woman moved from the sidewalk to a smooth curb to avoid the rocky, uneven surface. She declined to include her face in the photo.

This woman, who tore her meniscus in March and is recovering from surgery in May, said the sidewalks in Brussels are especially bad compared to other places in Belgium. “I have very bad balance,” she said.

This family from Brussels said the sidewalks are difficult to navigate and are “worse with a stroller.” They agreed, “it’s worth fixing.”

 WE MUST BE SEEN

 AND HEARD FOR

 CHANGE  TO HAPPEN

“If you’re walking and then you fall, it’s the fault of the city. And then they have to pay you.”  When asked if citizens are aware of this rule, he said, “They’re supposed to, but I don’t think they know.”
